Decanting a wine: why?
There are basically two reasons for decanting wine: to separate the liquid from its sediments in unfiltered wines and to soften younger wines.
In the decanter, the liquid comes into contact with oxygen and this accelerates its maturation, reduces the wine's tonicity, intensifies the fruit aromas, evaporates some of the high alcohol content and gains harmony, greater smoothness and less aggressiveness.
